Consider/Approve Amendment to the General Purpose School Fund Budget

Background Information:

Subsequent to the adoption of the General Purpose School Fund Budget for the 2012 – 2013 fiscal year, the School System experienced an increase in expenditures to meet the needs of a student. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team meeting was held to address special needs of a student. The IEP Team recommended, and the School System agreed, to place this student in the student’s least restrictive environment so that the student’s needs could be met. Additionally, the IEP Team recommended, and the School System agreed, to pay the cost for the student’s parents to visit the student twice monthly. Most, if not all, of the costs associated with this placement and travel will be reimbursed by the State of Tennessee; however, the School System must pay for these services in advance. The General Purpose School Fund Budget must be amended to include said expenditures since all of these additional costs must be accounted for within the General Purpose School Fund. A resolution is attached for the Board’s consideration.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the amendment to the 2012 – 2013 fiscal year budget for the General Purpose School Fund.
